Like many of the countries that are located in West Africa, there is a high demand for teachers in Ghana. Many schools do not have enough teachers to properly instruct the large amount of students that are enrolled. Therefore, schools in Ghana are constantly on the lookout for qualified teachers who are willing to work hard and advance their career. If you are a teacher who has thought about taking on a teaching job in Ghana, you may not be sure what is involved in securing employment. There are a few different ways that teachers typically look for jobs in Ghana. Let’s take a look at the best ways to find a teaching job in Ghana:

First of all, the subject you want to teach will play a very important role in determining how quickly you are able to find a teaching job in Ghana. Teachers for certain subjects are in greater demand than others. For example, there will always be a high demand in Ghana for experienced English teachers. This makes teaching English the easiest way for teachers to find employment in Ghana.

The Internet is the best way to view literally dozens of different organizations that regularly hire teachers for jobs in Ghana. All of the organizations have their own website that you can visit to learn about their various requirements and how much they will pay you. Here are some of the more well known organizations and a little information about each one:

1. The International TEFL Academy

They are a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification school that is one of the biggest of its kind in the world. They train more than 1,000 new teachers every year. More than 90 percent of the members have an Education degree. However, they want to become certified to teach English in a foreign country. Many English teachers in Ghana have gone through the International TEFL Academy and gained their certification allowing them to teach in Ghana. Once you have gained your certification, they will help you to find employment. Jobs teaching English are typically awarded on a contract basis from six months to one year in length.

2. Linguaphone Ghana

This is a member of the international Linguaphone Group. They are the largest provider of language training in Ghana. They provide courses such as Conversational English, Business English and Direct English. French language classes are also available. They have become successful because they tailor the courses they offer to the particular learning needs of their students. Linguaphone is constantly hiring teachers for their team. Teachers who are interested can simply send their CV directly to Linguaphone by using their website.

3. Mission:Teach

Mission:Teach provides various jobs for teachers in Ghana. They focus mainly on Christian teachers who are interested in working at an international school located in Accra. Along with teaching English, they are also looking for people who are qualified to teach special education, reading, high school, elementary and art.

4. GeoVisions

GeoVisions teachers work for 25 hours per week. The classes will contain anywhere from three to 15 students. Free room and board is included to all applicants who are accepted. Their website has more information on the teaching qualifications they require.

5. Lincoln Community School in Accra

The Lincoln Community School in Accra is an American international school. The school contains kindergarten through the 12th grade. The ethnic makeup of the students is extremely diverse. More than 60 different nationalities are represented. The curriculum that is taught is American. However, there are various classes and extra-curricular activities that focus on educating the children about Ghana. There are also many field trips throughout the year to various areas located in Ghana. These field trips allow students to better understand and appreciate the country they are studying in. 6. NICS Teach Abroad Program in Ghana

NICS opened this American International School in 2005 as a result of the massive increase of expatriates who have decided to live in Ghana. The school has been a huge success and has continued to grow steadily. The primary purpose of the school is to ensure that the children of expatriates have a quality education. They are always hiring qualified teachers, so contact the school directly to see exactly what positions are currently available.

7. ITTT Online TEFL Course

ITTT provides online courses for teaching English which are accredited and recognized internationally. More than 450 new trainees take the courses every month. Graduates of ITTT courses can now be found teaching in more than 50 countries. The online courses which are provided by ITTT give their students options for certification that are both affordable and flexible. The classes range from 50 to 200 hours, enabling students to study at home while they get their certification. 8. Go Overseas

Go Overseas is an organization that specializes in finding jobs for English teachers in many African countries including Ghana. They are also always looking for people who are skilled in teaching health, biology, IT, music and art. They allow teachers to work in different environments depending on their preference. Some teachers may work in a small rural town, while others work in a bustling city.

9. Global Nomadic Ltd.

Global Nomadic is one of the leaders in finding employment for teachers who want to work in Ghana. Their teaching jobs are always for at least 12 months. Jobs are available in both the rural parts of the country and Accra, the largest city in Ghana.

10. The Student and Youth Travel Organization

People who choose to participate in this program will be able to find employment teaching in Accra, Kumasi and Elmina. Teachers will work together as a team to better instruct large groups of students for a given subject. Job placement is also available with this program.
